Marco Island, Florida has come a long way since the time of the Civil War. Today it is a booming real estate market, where luxury homebuilders like Nova Homes of South Florida are building custom homes with their build-on-your-lot program. The development of Marco Island began in the 1870s when W.T. Collier (no relation to Barron Collier, who is credited with developing Collier County) brought his wife and nine children to the Island. In 1896, his son "Captain Bill" Collier opened a hotel in 1896, today known as the Olde Marco Inn.
In 1922 Barron Gift Collier purchased most of the island, and most of what would become known as Collier County. Due to the depression, the war, and other factors development was slow on Marco. In 1962, three brothers, Elliott, Robert, and Frank Jr. Mackle developed a master plan for the island, after purchasing it from the Collier estate for a mere seven million dollars. Their company, the Deltona Corporation, developed a master plan complete with resort living, hotels, apartments, and an extensive area for single family homes, including inland and lots along the waterways.
Today this boater's paradise island is home to many multi-million dollar homes and more affordably priced homes as well. Nova Homes of South Florida has been building custom homes on Marco Island for many years, and has established the reputation of being one of Marco Island's premier custom homebuilders.
