According to SmartAsset, a New York financial services company, Naples is the top ranked destination in Florida to retire to. Nationally, Naples is ranked No. 3. Utilizing government data, the annual study rated 4,700 cities by their tax friendliness, recreational, social opportunities, and availability for medical services – which affects the quality of life.
Naples received its highest ranking based on several factors. First was the low 10.2 percent tax rate. Second was access to medical care, and third, the percentage of seniors as part of the total population. Throughout Florida the tax rate was calculated at 13 percent.
Interestingly, the metrics used by SmartAssets did not include weather. Naples tropical climate and top-ranked beaches and amenities such as championship golf courses, world-class boating and fishing were not a factor in the rating. Naples has an average high temperature of 85 degrees. The numbers one and two nationwide best places to retire to according to the metrics are both in Alaska. Alaska, like Florida is a very tax-friendly state. In Florida there is no state income tax, no tax on Social Security retirement benefits, no estate tax or inheritance tax.
